Ground breaking proposed for late Fall of 2009!!!!!!!
And the location for The Harwiches Dog Park is.................Thompson's Field on the Route 39 side?
As of now, The Conservation Department and Committee has approved the location, with a one year trial basis.  This means the dog park will be set-up with two sections in an all enclosed fenced in area, one area for large dogs and the other for small dogs.  More details will be forth coming.

Happy Labor Day and Peace and Paws to all for a wonderful Indian Summer!

How did the Committee start?

Once upon a time, a group of Pet Parents got together and formed "THE HARWICHES DOG PARK" committee. The group was made up of dedicated and compassionate people who wanted to have a park where their dogs could play and meet other dogs.
They dreamed of a park that would  encompass a fenced in area divided into three sections. One section would be a run area, open, with benches, picnic tables, kiosks, and shaded pergolas. This section would allow the Pet Parents to sit and enjoy watching their dogs having fun while meeting other Pet Parents.  The park would become a social facilitator for all who entered it.  Water bubblers for the dogs to drink from and recycled hydrants to play around.
The middle section would be the agility area. This section would consist of balance beams, tunnels, an agility course, a tire swing, and of course a slide.
The third section would be for Puppies and small dogs. It would have a memorial garden filled with plants in memory of beloved dogs who went to heaven and made room for the ones living. This garden would grow along the fence seperating the other sections, so as to not distract puppies while they were being trained by their owners and trainers.  A small reflection pool would be in the center of this lovely memorial garden, to reflect the dedication and compassion of the Pet Parents who would come to enjoy the park with their dogs. The park would be open year round, from dawn to dusk, with handicapped access.
But in order to make this dream come true, we need your help with donations.  Please help make our dream come true!

Thank you,
The Harwiches Dog Park Committee

Our Mission

The Harwiches Dog Park mission is to provide a fenced in and safe environment for all dogs and their owners, and to facilitate socialization between both groups. The committee's mission is to create an area, that will promote and enhance dogs and their owners lives with a run area, an agility area and a small dog area.
This park has been designed by very passionate dog lovers who want it to be available to all Harwich residents and their dogs, as well as residents and their dogs from neighboring  communities. It will be soley run by donations, fundraising and an annual dog park fee for the badge to get in to the park.  It will be open year round and maintained by volunteers, it's hours of operation will be dawn to dusk.
Our hope for this park, is that it will resemble the commitment and the dedication of the committee, the town and most of all the dog owners who will enjoy it.  Handicapped accessibilty will be available.

The Memorial Garden
The vision for the memorial garden will be located inside the small dog section with a small reflection pool as a remembrance of our beloved dogs who would of enjoyed the dog park.
We will plant  perrennials, trees, and grasses in the garden in their honor, commemorating you beloved dog with a stone garden marker.
This garden will enclose the small dog section and help distract the puppies while they are being trained by their owners or trainers, from the other dogs in the other sections.
Local landscapers will be donating or least part of their products and services to this wonderful park.
